THE RED BEAN RESTAURANT (Opening soon)

At Red Bean our vision is to become one of Vietnam’s leading restaurant brands serving modern Vietnamese cuisine with high quality and innovative ideas but never forgetting the roots and value of true and authentic Vietnamese cooking.

Our aim is to build a great reputation in the hospitality and restaurant trade. To help lead the way in creating inspirational dishes which keep true to Vietnamese cooking embodying the five elements of metal, wood, fire, water and earth that underpin Vietnamese food.

Why Red Bean? It may seem a humble and simple red bean (in Vietnamese đậu đỏ) but it is a versatile, very important and far reaching ingredient in Vietnamese (and other Asian) dishes both sweet and savory. As well as having a high nutritional value, philosophically the red bean embodies a deep and powerful meaning within Asian societies. It is believed to be a symbol of love and fidelity, and is featured in legends and poems about love and romance.

We chose the name Red Bean as it is symbolic of what we aspire to in Vietnamese cuisine. Let our menu take you on a culinary Vietnamese journey stimulating the senses and taste buds. Colors, flavors and fragrances of our famous and not so famous national and regional dishes are combined and exquisitely presented. Dine at Red Bean and fall in love with Vietnam.

As proud parents we thought you would also like to know that there is a second and more personal reason we chose the name Red Bean. When our youngest son was born we immediately nicknamed him đậu đỏ or Red Bean because he looked like a big red bean the first few months of his life. And the name stuck. He loves his food and we love him and perhaps one day he will grow up to be a chef by which time we hope there will be a chain of Red Bean restaurants throughout Vietnam!

We dined here on our first night in Vietnam after reading a few reviews on Trip Advisor. Having spent the day walking around the busy, sometime chaotic, streets of the Old Town in Hanoi, it really was the perfect place to dine. We sat on the roof terrace rather than in the air con restaurant inside, as the evening temperature was not too hot, and we wanted to still experience Hanoi despite being many floors up. The restaurant was friendly and the food and service excellent. It was a great way to spend our first evening of three weeks in Vietnam. Many thanks Gourmet Corner for a great introduction to an amazing country.

Whilst staying at another hotel in Hanoi and being force fed set menu's at some dodgy places, we broke free and found this place (courtesy of Trip Advisor).

The food here is impeccable, as is the service and all the staff.

Genuinely the nicest meal I have eaten in any country for a long time.

Cheap by western prices too, we had cocktails, 2 two course meals, coffee's and a bottle of wine, for approx £40.

    Michelin star in the waiting??

Would eat here every day if I could.

We booked this restaurant by email a week before our trip. The hotel/ restaurant were very prompt in replying to our request. On arrival it was fairly easy to find as it is on the top floor of the Elegance Hotel in Hanoi’s Old Quarter. It was lucky we booked as ALL the tables had been pre booked for a week or so. The view as the sun went down was spectacular from the 12th floor, overlooking Hanoi’s 36 Streets and Hoan Kiem Lake. The restaurant is small (about 12 tables) and intimate with a feel for the details (flowers, clean linen, etc). The service and friendliness of the staff was perfect- they were happy to offer suggestions and even tailor the meal to our needs (I hate ginger, so they kindly removed it from my dish). The food quality was excellent- our best meal in Hanoi and the wine list had some good choices- we opted for a Chilean wine. There is no hurry for the meal- we took quite a time- as there is no attempt to have a second sitting thank goodness. All in all I would really recommend- just make sure you book ahead. The establishment is genuinely keen to offer a fine dining experience and welcomed any comments we had.

We had the pleasure of staying at this lovely little hotel in the middle of the old quarter & discovered that not only did it offer excellent rooms but also a fabulous restaurant on the 12th floor. We had breakfast there every morning & could choose from a large selection of wonderfully prepared dishes. The lunches and suppers were just as good. Fresh ingredience and a wide selection authentic dishes. The kitchen area was visible and looked very clean as was the eating area. To top it all the staff were completely charming and took time to chat and get to know you. Would highly recommend this wonderful little gem of a place.

I booked a dinner for a group of friends who come from different cultures and who are all choosy (because they are all working in Hanoi at the moment) as well as so familiar with different good places around the town. It was quite stress for me as the beginning as this was an important dinner and I wished to make a different impression to them, of course I mean great impression. As the restaurant is not so spacey, they first placed us in the room and I did not like it. So I insisted the staff to move us to the open air areas. It was difficult to do so with our booking but the staff have managed it perfectly, without bothering other guests, and always kind and nice. Five star customer service, especially to Sabrina, love you :-)

All in all, I just repeat what others wrote alot here: extraordinary view (one side is the sparkling Thang Long bridge over the Hong River, one side is the miraculous Hoan Kiem lake and its surroundings); excellent service, great food, and because of all that, we have made four big bottles of good wines 'evaporated' :-D

You should definitely be there, and if during this beautiful autumn evenings, remember to book a table outside to enjoy cool atmosphere and marvellous view.

Amazing food. Great views. Courteous servers. Lovely atmosphere. Very reasonable prices. I would definitely recommend this restaurants to friends who are visiting Hanoi. Great place to bring kids who are in their teens. Maybe not young kids as it is a small restaurant and it is not a place to run around.
